Zyara

Season 6

Zyara season 6 honors everyday heroes living in Beirut, Lebanon.
After the Beirut August 4th blast in 2020 we had a very difficult decision to honor our wound but also with awareness that justice has yet to prevail. In this season we faced death with Rim EL Jundi the artist who has a near death experience, Sami Basbous a queer artist who almost died from HIV and how that changed his relations with his father, Imane Obeid a single mother who had to raise her daughter alone after the sudden death of her beloved husband right after she gave birth, Mahmoud Baayoun a young man who almost died after a motorbike incident and how that changed him and his life, Fatima Ismail a woman who gave birth alone standing firm in the face of patriarchy, and last but not least Naya Rajab a Syrian queer activist & refugee.
In the other 5 episodes we honored as discretely as possible the survivors of the blast, those who were able to reflect on that trauma and extract a lesson out of it; such as Rony Mecattaf the psychotherapist, Ghia Haddad the student, Sebou Torikian the dancer, Mafia Boussabat the Tunisian early education worker, Nassim Assad the fighter for peace, and Youssef Mallah the amazing fire fighter.
