The patriarchal caste system led Maryam AKA “Maryam Bahr” to leave her homeland and seek refuge in the Manara seashore neighborhoods in Beirut, where she lived for over 17 years. She became such an intrinsic part of the town that the fishermen and everyone who learned fishing from her nicknamed her ‘Mama Mariam’.
This Zyara episode is a bottle Mariam is throwing at sea, hoping it reaches her children whom she wishes to hug more than anything in the world.
